Application Letter

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am writing in connection with the advertisement in yesterday's El Llanquihue. I am a professional English Teacher graduated from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and I hope that you find my studies along with my experience would qualify me for working in your rural school.

I am a professional teacher graduated from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso three years ago. During my studies, I took place in the "Exchange Program" for one semester in The United States. Since I left College, I have participated in one specialist course. I work in a High School here in Puerto Montt; however, I would like to work in your school.

Due to my teaching qualifications and that I studied in your school for one year when I was young, I could work with no problems: I am quite familiar with the background of a rural school and the life-style in there (I was living in the countryside for four years). I could deal with students and their main problems: learn and motivation. Apart from that, I am sure I would cope with other situations, I would be happy to help everybody who needs me.

I would be grateful if you could inform me when you will be announcing the results of the application. I would  also be available for interview at your convenience.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Cristina Fuentes.

Formal Letter to a Travel Company.

Dear Sir,
My name is Violeta and I’m writing to you because I’m quite interested in your holiday company that offers a guided tour to India which includes a deep-sea diving in the Indian Ocean. My family and I are very excited to travel to India and we think that this is the opportunity to do it. But I have some doubts that came up to my mind when I saw the advertisement and I was wondering if you could give me some extra information:

Firstly, I would like to know if you have any offer for people who travel with their family because I really want to travel with my mother and my two brothers. If there is no offer, would you mind telling me how much the whole tour cost? And, what does it include apart from the deep-sea diving?

Secondly, I read some information about baggage but I will be grateful if you tell me the weight limit that each person can carry.

Finally, I know that the weather is quite different from the one that we have here in Chile, so could you send me any information about the weather in India? And, also, what kinds of clothes are suitable to wear during our holidays in that country?

I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,
Violeta Ruiz.

Music can heal people.

Music is an element that could be found in every day and believe it or not, it can be used to cure people.

It’s clear that music can be an important element in people’s lives, but some people claim that is just a complement, a mixture between rhythm, music and lyrics made to enjoy them and complement your daily routine. Music was created just to enjoy it. Also, when people are listening to music they are conscious that is just a song and it is almost impossible that it can do something for their life.

Despite of that, music is a vital part of every culture and it can influence people in the way they dress, speak behave and think. For example, when someone is sad and listens to a sad song, probably he doesn’t change his way of thinking in that particular moment; but if he listens to a happy song it’s possible that his feelings begin to change. That characteristic makes that music can be used as a therapy to modify the mood and help people to go through their live. Also, music can be used in medical treatments to accelerate the process of healing: music takes away tension and stress to make positive changes and advances to cure an issue.

To summarise, I honestly believe that music can heal people because in my daily-life I know that a good song can make my day different and better; also in my opinion music is very useful  and it will be incorporated in medical treatments.

Welcome Freshmen!! (Description of an event)

In our University we as students have a very especial event caller "Apadrinamiento", in which every second-year students choose one freshmen to help and guide him/her through the years they will be studying.

This year was our turn to do the ceremony as sophomores, and we decided to do a "Café Convers" to enjoy a great moment and meet us each other. "Café Convers" is an event in which all students can attend, have sit and discuss what they want, of course in English; drinking juice or soda, eating cookies or chips and list
ening to music. Also, it is possible that professors and foreign students attend the event.

The event took place at the university. There, we decorated a room and when it was ready, we invited freshmen to enter and enjoy. After an hour, every second-year student took half of a picture and leave the room. The activity was simple and fun: each freshmen had to look for the sophomore who had another half to complete the photograph and thus meet his/her godfather.

I really loved the activity because it was amusing to see how one-year students were desperately looking up their godfather/godmother. I had half of two different pictures, so now I have two very nice goddaughter.
